The Hardships of 2020
Before going any further, we’d like to bring attention to the hard times we’ve all experienced this year. It has been tough to live in 2020. Not being able to go out and see your friends, attend real-life events, or even learn in an actual classroom. Covid-19 has put a strain on us all. We at Toontown Offline wish to put out a statement to all of our fans; we can do this. We can all get through this together. And whether that happens in 2021 or beyond, just know we’re all in the same boat. Things will improve.
The Bright Side of 2020
2020 hasn’t been all doom-and-gloom, though. There are many things we have to be grateful for this year, specifically when it comes to the Toontown community. Without a doubt, 2020 has been the biggest year for Toontown history yet. Despite being nearly a decade since the original game closed, we were treated to a plethora of leaks and content from the game’s history. It came in the form of never-before-seen assets, original source code, and a snapshot of what Toontown was like in it’s Beta days. And as you most likely know, we sure as heck took advantage of all these leaks had to offer. We’ve used so much content given to us in the Pandora and Anesidora leaks, including the contents of the Toontown Beta Disc released by Joe Schochet.
Toontown Offline isn’t the only project that’s taken advantage of these new discoveries. Just last week, ’>Toontown Archive Released Their 1.0.5 Beta Server to the public, making this legacy version of Toontown playable to the public for the first time in nearly 20 years. Truth be told, this has certainly been a year for all Toontown fans to celebrate.
But what else has happened this year? Well for Toontown Offline, this was the year we finally released the rebranded version of our game with the v1.0 update. It took a lot of hard work, but earlier this year we finally did it. And in the months since, we’ve had a consistent stream of updates, containing many new features, tweaks, and bug fixes galore. If you’re a fan of Toontown Offline, you certainly didn’t leave 2020 empty handed with new content.
Looking Past 2020
So what happens now? What’s on the horizon for Toontown Offline in 2021? Rest assured, we are consistently working on our huge Operation: Seek Out Scrooge update. Will it be ready in 2021? If I were to guess, I’d say it’s not very likely. That may not be the answer you were looking to hear, but it’s the answer you deserve. But hey, what a surprise it would be if we did manage something like that! And of course, we will have a stream of small miscellaneous content release as we have been doing ever since our v1.0 update.
Don’t worry- I don’t plan to leave you empty handed though. As this is the last blog post of the year, we wanted to possibly show off a snippet of what we’ve been working on for Operation: Seek Out Scrooge. However, we’ve already shown off a lot already this year. We feel that by showing off any more (at least for a while), it would sour the surprise we want to build up for this update. After all, we can’t show you everything, now can we? Despite this, we thought of an idea that could meet you in the middle. Pictured below is an out-of-context compilation that shows off what we’ve been working on lately for our Operation: Seek Out Scrooge update. To us, we know what each of the following images represents. But to you guys? Well, I guess you’ll just have to connect the dots for yourselves.

The bald eagle’s history in Pennsylvania is a precarious one. Only 30 years ago, Pennsylvania had a mere three nests left in the entire state. With the help of the Canadian government and several agencies including the Pennsylvania Game Commission, bald eagle chicks were brought back to PA to reintroduce bald eagles to the Northeast.
The bald eagle is the only eagle unique to North America and about half of the bald eagle population lives in Alaska. Bald eagles live along the coast and on major lakes and rivers where they feed mainly on fish.
Eagles sit at the top of the food chain, making them more vulnerable to toxic chemicals in the environment, since each link in the food chain tends to concentrate chemicals from the lower link. A bald eagle’s lifting power is about 4 lbs. Generally, they do not feed on domestic livestock or pets, but they will make use of available food sources. Bald eagles will take advantage of carrion (dead and decaying flesh).
Both male and female adult bald eagles have blackish-brown back and breast; a white head, neck and tail; yellow feet, legs and beak; and pale yellow eyes. Immature bald eagles have a mixture of brown and white feathers, with a black beak and brown eyes in younger birds; some immature bald eagles have more mottling than others. Adult plumage develops when a bald eagle become sexually mature; it takes five years for a bald eagle to attain solid white head and tail feathers.
It’s possible for bald eagles in the wild to live longer than thirty years, but the average lifespan is fifteen to twenty years. A female bald eagle’s body length varies from 35 to 37 inches; with a wingspan of 79 to 90 inches. The smaller male bald eagle has a body length of 30 to 34 inches; with a wingspan ranging from 72 to 85 inches. An eagle’s average weight is ten to fourteen pounds. Camera #1 is positioned six feet above the bald eagle nesting tree and is equipped with night vision or infrared light, which emits no actual light. Nor does it make any noise. The bald eagles do not see or hear anything coming from the camera. Camera #2 is located approximately 60 feet from the nest and has the ability to capture images of the nest action outside the view of Camera #1. * The original adult bald eagle pair, known as Ozzie and Harriet, had been coming to this nest since 2006. After Ozzie’s passing in the early fall of 2015, Harriet & M15 bonded in late fall of 2015. This is their fifth season as a mated pair at this location.
* While spotted most months out the year in the area, they officially reside in this nest between the months of October and May.
* The nest sits 60 feet above the ground, in a Slash Pine tree. In the Spring of 2016, the nest deteriorated and completely fell apart.
* The nest camera faces South East.
* The pair relocated the nest from across the street to its current location for the 2006-2007 nesting season. This nest is labeled LE026-B of the Florida State Monitoring Program. It has been monitored at this location for 8 years.

The interiors of the film were shot at Pinewood Studios in England and the exterior locations were shot in Kenya, though the film is set in the Arizona desert in the United States.[3] It was produced by Alced Productions and Paramount Pictures.
The film was a box office disappointment and as a result, this was the only feature film directed by Bass. It has since gained a cult following due to TV airings beginning in 1975 and also being shown on Mystery Science Theater 3000 during the KTMA era.
A novelization of the script, written by Barry N. Malzberg, was published as Phase IV in November 1973.Plot[edit]
After a spectacular and mysterious cosmic event, ants undergo rapid evolution and develop a cross-species hive mind and build strange towers and geometrically perfect designs in the Arizona desert. Except for one family, the local human population flees the strangely acting ants. Scientists James Lesko and Ernest Hubbs set up a computerized lab in a sealed dome located in an area of significant ant activity in Arizona. The ant colony and the scientific team fight each other, though the ants are the more effective aggressors.
The narrative uses the scientific team as the main protagonists, but there are also ant protagonists going about their duties in the colony. The ants immunize themselves to the humans’ chemical weapons and soon infiltrate their lab. Teams of ants penetrate the computers of the lab and short them out. After Lesko decodes an ant message, Kendra Eldrige (a young woman who has taken refuge with the scientists), becomes convinced that her actions have enraged the ants. Seeking to save the two scientists, she abandons the lab and apparently sacrifices herself.
Hubbs and Lesko begin to have different plans for dealing with the ants. While Lesko thinks he can communicate with the ants by means of messages written in mathematics, Hubbs plans to wipe out a hill he believes to be the ants’ central hive. Delirious from a venomous ant sting, Hubbs can barely get his boots on but is determined to attack the hive and kill the ant queen. Instead, Hubbs literally falls into a trap – a deep pit that the ants fill with earth. Helpless to save Hubbs and convinced that the ants will soon move into desert areas where their growth will exceed man’s ability to control them, Lesko chooses to follow Hubbs’s plan. He sets out to the hive with a canister of poison. Descending into the hive, Lesko hunts for the queen but instead finds Kendra reaching out from under the sand. The two embrace and Lesko realizes that far from destroying the human race, the ants’ plan is to adapt the human race and make them a part of the ants’ world. Ken Middleham, the wildlife photographer who shot the insect sequences for Phase IV, also shot the insect sequences for the documentary The Hellstrom Chronicle. Both feature extensive use of close-up photography of insects.[4]
During production, Saul Bass was concerned with 20 year old Lynne Frederick’s figure since she was playing a 16 year old. She was forced to wear a specially designed and painful iron-clad corset to bind her breasts (to make her appear younger) throughout production. Bass also attempted to persuade Frederick to restrict her diet to chicken broth and black coffee.The New Genesis Car
According to the book Future Tense, ’Bass originally filmed a spectacular, surreal montage lasting four minutes, showing what life would be like on the ’new’ Earth, but this was cut by the distributor.’[5] The montage was intended to suggest that the two surviving characters were altered by the ants’ creation of the next step in evolution for humanity and insects. Shots from the original montage sequence appear in the theatrical trailer, which was likely prepared before cuts were made to the film.
In early 2012, a faded print of the original ending sequence was found in the Saul Bass Collection at the Academy Film Archive in a preview version of the film, which was originally shown to test audiences in 1973. In June 2012, this excerpt was screened to the public in Los Angeles at the Cinefamily cinematheque following a showing of the theatrical version.[6] The Academy Film Archive was able to find the original film elements for the montage, a set of separation masters, in Paramount Studio’s archives. The archive staff recombined the separations, color-timed them for presentation, and had them digitally scanned.[7] This recovered montage ending, along with a brand new 35mm print of the theatrical version, premiered at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas, as a part of a full day of films by Saul Bass in December 2012, before being shown at select art-house theaters in other cities.[8]
The novelization of Mayo Simon’s screenplay, written by Barry N. Malzberg, gives a hint of the final version by Bass, as it uses the uncut version of Simon’s script.[9]Home media[edit]
The film was released on VHS by Paramount Pictures, the studio that made the movie. A DVD was released by Legend Films in 2008, and a Blu-ray was released by Olive Films in 2015. All of these releases are barebones versions and do not include any special features, such as the original theatrical trailer or the scenes cut from the original version of the film.
The long-rumored alternate ending of the film[10]remained out of distribution until discovered and restored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Academy Film Archive. It is now available on iTunes Extras in celebration of the 45th Anniversary. [11] In 2020, UK video label 101 Films released PHASE IV in a two-disc limited edition Blu-ray set that includes the restored original ending as an extra, along with several short films directed by Bass.Soundtrack[edit]
Brian Gascoigne was the chief composer, and Stomu Yamashta was responsible for the music in the final montage sequence, which was cut from the theatrical release. David Vorhaus and Desmond Briscoe composed the electronic music. Waxwork Records released the soundtrack on vinyl in March 2015. It does not include the cut final sequence montage music by Stomu Yamashta. It was the first release of the soundtrack in any format.[12]Reception[edit]
Upon its initial theatrical release, the film had mixed reviews. In a generally positive review, Jay Cocks of Time saw the film as ’good, eerie entertainment, with interludes of such haunted visual intensity that it becomes, at its best, a nightmare incarnate’.[13] In a negative review, Variety wrote that this ecological monster film ’didn’t get the bugs worked out before release’.[14]Time Out London wrote that the special effects take priority over the ideas.[15] A. H. Weiler of The New York Times wrote, ’For all of its good, scientific and human intentions, ’Phase IV’ cries for a Phase V of fuller explanations.’[16]
The review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes gave the film 56% based on 16 reviews with an average rating of 6/10.[17] Ignatiy Vishnevetsky of The A.V. Club described it as ’designed more than directed, and edited around principles of color and line, rather than around performance or plot’.[18] Bill Gibron of PopMatters rated it 7/10 stars and wrote that ’for every hackneyed hole-punch moment there’s an engaging scope enhanced by the film’s visual wonders’.[19] David Cornelius of DVD Talk rated it 4.5/5 stars and wrote, ’Watch it late at night with the lights out, and you’ll get plenty freaked.’[20]
Phase IV won the 1975 Grand Prix Award at the International Festival of Science Fiction Films in Trieste, Italy.[21] Over time, the film has gained a cult following.[22][23]Legacy[edit]
This is the first film to depict a geometric crop circle, in this case, created by super-intelligent ants. The film predates by two years the first modern reports of crop circles in the United Kingdom, and it has been cited as a possible inspiration or influence on the pranksters who started this phenomenon.[24]
The film has been a significant influence on a recent generation of science fiction film directors and other visual media artists. In an interview, the Argentine director Nicolas Goldbart described Phase IV as having had a profound cinematic influence on him.[25] In his science fiction film Phase 7, Phase IV is playing on a television in the apartment of the protagonists. The writer/director Panos Cosmatos described Phase IV as having been a very significant influence on the look and feel of his science fiction film Beyond the Black Rainbow.[26]
The music video by Radical Friend for Yeasayer’s 2009 song ’Ambling Alp’ is an homage to Phase IV, and the video’s images are inspired by some of the visual elements of the film.[27]

All of these examples are from the west, mostly on the California Zephyr, the Southwest Chief, or the Ski Train. Paint schemes have changed over time, as have the models of locomotives. I have photos of basically all types and livery in use on western long-haul trains since the start of the Amtrak California Zephyr era in 1983.

The F40PH is basically a cowled version of the GP40-2, with an added Head-End Power (HEP) generator. These 3000-HP units began arriving in the late 1970s, and served Amtrak well for over 20 years. Arriving in three groups, they were numbered (by group) in the ranges 200 to 229, 230 to 328, and 329 to 400. The first group had smaller 1,500-gallon fuel tanks; the latter two groups had the larger 1,800-gallon version. Most F40PHs have now been retired or sold to other operations, so there is no real numbering conflict with the higher series of P42s.In March 1984, Amtrak F40PH locomotives Nos. 374 and 265 are leading the California Zephyr westbound near tunnel 1, above the Highway 72 bridge just west of Denver. No. 374 is in the relatively-new Phase III paint scheme, whereas No. 265 is still in Phase II. July 1986 has Nos. 358 and 316 on the point of train No. 6, a half-mile east of the photo above. No. 287 leads No. 6 on June 30, 1995 at Glenwood Springs, CO. By now there often were AMD103s on the route, and the days of the F40s were numbered.Nos. 388 and 298 are leased to Ansco to power the Ski Train for the 1997/1998 season. Here they’re grinding up through Plainview on January 2, 1998. A common arrangement for two seasons, it turned out that to have only two units on the long train-- one running HEP as well as traction power-- was to operate right on the margin of reliability. Eventually, the operation began using three F40’s.
Bottom: the prior week (December 28, 1997) the same power leads the train through Crescent siding.Nos. 334, 332, and 40-(something) are being leased by Ansco to power the Ski Train in August 1999. Here the trio is at Winter Park, CO, waiting while the train unloads passengers. Afterwards, they will take the train to Tabernash to be turned, and bring it back for loading later in the day. To my knowledge I only saw one of these, ever. They wore a unique paint scheme (dubbed the ’Pepsi Can’ by railfans). I only caught the unit on analog video; here is a screen capture of No. 503.

The AMD 103, or ’Genesis’ series, of locomotives was rolled out in 1993 as the next generation of diesel road power for Amtrak. The first group generated 4,000 HP, and are designated as type P40. They are numbered in the range 800 to 843. Most were gradually mothballed as the P42’s came online, but since circa 2013 some have been reactivated.Two P40s, Nos. 822 and 812, head up No. 5 at East Portal, CO on November 25, 1994. They wear the first Genesis paint scheme, where the stripes fade out toward the back of the unit. This was supposed to be reminiscent of a ribbon flapping in the breeze. The scheme did not long endure, probably because it was hard to maintain. Both of these units were repainted circa 1999-2000 in the Phase IV scheme, a la No. 16 below.
(Incidentally, No. 822 is now painted in a Heritage Scheme)A going-away shot: the same train enters the portal, and we have a closer look at the back end of the two units. This scheme was only applied to the P40 series. No. 805 is captured on video at east Rocky on 1/04/1997.No. 816 has been repainted into Phase 5 and resuscitated for regular service again. Beginning in 1996/97,GE released an updated version of the Genesis, the P42. P42s are nearly identical to P40s on the outside (minus a rear hostler window), but have an additional 250 horsepower. They are numbered in the series 1 to 207. After the advent of the P42s, the P40s appeared only rarely on the CZ. Nearly all were in storage by 2003.
There have been three different paint schemes applied to P42 locomotives, plus minor variations. Styles have changed over time, plus Amtrak has had different looks for different services. The current standard is

The popularity of the Wycombe Wanderers FC name and brand has an amazing ability to generate people’s interest within the local community. This provides the opportunity for Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust to harness that interest and use it to achieve positive outcomes. By delivering activities in four main areas; Health, Education, Social Inclusion and Sports Participation we aim to have a major impact on the lives of those people we interact with, both now and for many years to come.

Fans are crowding Linda’s burger van for the first time in more than nine months.
Linda herself is busy flipping patties on the grill but her assistant, Annie, sums up what it means to have supporters return to stadiums.
’It’s just awesome,’ she says. ’It’s great to see everyone smiling again, it feels like a bit of normality has come back.’
Linda’s van is just outside the entrance to Adams Park, the home of Wycombe Wanderers. They won the playoff at an almost empty Wembley with none of their own fans present. ’That was the best day and the worst day, very bittersweet,’ says Mark Bowring, a lifelong Wycombe supporter.

Under the newest government regulations, outdoor stadiums in Tier 1 areas are permitted to have 4,000 supporters or 50% stadium capacity, whichever is the smaller number. In Tier 2, like Wycombe, 2,000 fans are allowed, or 50% capacity.

A breakdown in communication between central government and the local council meant Wycombe had tailored their planning towards a pilot event, so only 1,000 supporters were permitted inside to see their struggling team take on Stoke on Wednesday evening.
Queuing outside, they are allowed in one-by-one, some stopping so their temperature can be tested, grasping their ticket like it was golden.
This isn’t the pre-pandemic fan experience. Fans are socially distanced with at least three seats between each party, mask wearing is mandatory and no food or drink is on sale in the stadium.
American owner Pete Couhig is delighted to have fans back, even if it’s costing him. ’Right now these matches are actually costing us a little bit of extra money to do, to have 1,000 fans in,’ he says.© Getty Travel to and from the ground remains the government’s chief concern
’Match day ticket sales are huge in the Championship. We fully expected to sell out most if not all of our matches this year.
’Instead we’re not covering our costs with ticket sales or selling food and drink.’
There has been a massive drive across football to get fans back. Many thought up to one third of supporters would be allowed to return in October following a string of pilot events, but the second wave hit rendering those plans impossible.
Even now there is frustration that more supporters are not allowed in given the fact these are outdoor events. But authorities insist it is the travel to and from the stadium which remains the concern.

’A vaccine’s been authorised for the public and that’s going to be a big step forward for not just the football industry, the whole hospitality industry,’ says stadium manager Gordon Reilly. ’It might mean we can get a full house in here before the end of the season, that’s for sure.’
For now, these fans are grateful just to be here to applaud, even if they are clapping a 0-1 defeat at the end of the night.
